Annual Report 2020

Spurring Exports In The New Norm MATRADE Core Purpose 99 01 02 03 04 05 Mid-tier Companies were given support through the Ramp-Up Programme to continue market expansion activities based on strategic export plans. The implementation of this programme focused on aspects of market exploration, branding activities and capacity building. In 2020, a total of 253 MTC were assisted in expanding their exports especially to new markets while further developing existing ones. Due to MCO, many activities were conducted virtually. These include webinars for capacity building through advisory services and impact tracking activities. A total of seven webinars were organised covering the following topics: • Business Contingency Plan; • Transform Your Business to Compete in the Digital Age; • Internationalisation Opportunities to Myanmar; • Internationalisation Opportunities to The Philippines; • Alternative Funding Option; • How Mid-tier Companies Deal with the COVID-19 Crisis; and • Revitalising Business in the New Normal. Through impact tracking, MTC were able to provide feedback on programmes and challenges faced in exploring international markets, which in turn enabled MATRADE to provide more effective and efficient support under the Ramp-Up Programme. MID-TIER COMPANIES RAMP-UP PROGRAMME Market immersion programmes were also implemented virtually in countries such as Australia, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia which involves business matching and pitching sessions to connect these companies with potential importers from abroad. Under the Ramp-Up Programme, MATRADE also worked with several strategic partners, particularly the Malaysian Consortium of Mid-Tier Companies (MCMTC) to formulate new incentive proposals for companies under PENJANA undertaken by the Ministry of Finance Malaysia. This is part of an initiative to reduce the burden of companies affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Webinar held for mid-tier companies through the Ramp-Up Programme
