Spurring Exports In The New Norm MATRADE Core Purpose 95 01 02 03 04 05 The Bumiputera, Women and Youth Exporter Development Programme (BWYEDP) is a mentoring programme to assist Bumiputera, Women and Youth owned companies explore the export market. BWYEDP was established in 2004 as a Trade Outreach Programme which was originally aimed at developing Bumiputera exporters. It was restructured in 2005 to involve women entrepreneurs and later realigned in 2014 for the participation of youth entrepreneurs. BWYEDP offers a three-year support programme to encourage companies to be sustainable and competitive in expanding exports of products and services to international markets. It is an intensive programme that involves exporters business training tailored to the needs of a particular company, including competency enhancement, international business exposure, networking and mentoring sessions, as well as leadership and entrepreneurship development. BUMIPUTERA, WOMEN AND YOUTH EXPORTER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME Since the programme was introduced, BWYEDP has approved the participation of 402 Bumiputera, Women and Youth companies where a total of 324 companies have completed while 78 are still undergoing the programme. Overall, companies participating in the BWYEDP programme have recorded export potential of RM2.1 billion. In 2020, MATRADE approved the recruitment of 30 companies to participate in this programme for the 2020-2022 session, encompassing 14 Bumiputera, 12 women and 4 youth owned companies. The programme was also enhanced with an additional criterion on guidance where companies are allowed to participate in virtual international trade fairs. This initiative was in line with the current situation which restricts cross border movement besides increasing digital trade promotion practices.
