MATRADE Annual Report 2020 94 Despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, MATRADE implemented export competency development programmes for Malaysian business entities to explore and expand their businesses into the international market. Before the pandemic, two training programmes were physically organised while the remaining 42 were converted to online training formats according to the new normal. A total of 9,266 business entities participated in MATRADE training programmes which were mostly conducted in the form of webinars. Throughout the year, 119 professional and experienced speakers from government officers, the private sector, trade and industry associations, financial institutions as well as importers and exporters shared their knowledge and experiences. The training programmes covered a wide range of topics including guidelines, rules and strategies for penetrating international markets, market intelligence, target market practices as well as sharing of experiences. In addition, the exporters training programmes also involved Trade Commissioners from 30 overseas offices as well as former Trade Commissioners to publicise trade promotion activities and provide updates on current market scenarios apart from discussing export opportunities of Malaysian products and services. EXPORTERS TRAINING A total of 44 training sessions were implemented throughout 2020 consisting of 18 programmes related to exploring international markets such as in ASEAN, ROK, Latin America including Chile and Columbia, Poland, Germany and Italy. A total of 18 programmes were on product and service sectors including professional services, construction and architecture. Of this, 15 programmes were held during the #MyAPEC2020 Exhibition. Other training programmes touched on general topics including labeling, standards and certification as well as services provided by MATRADE to Malaysian business entities.
