MATRADE Annual Report 2020 82 The eTRADE programme was established to help Malaysian SMEs promote their products and services to the global market through listings on international eCommerce platforms. This programme was first implemented in October 2014 in collaboration with MDEC. Subsequently in 2016, MDEC fully handed over the programme to MATRADE. In 2017, the eTRADE Programme was implemented under the 11th Malaysia Plan. Through market intelligence, MATRADE discovered that importers from major trading countries were increasingly employing eCommerce as their transaction medium. Following this, MATRADE has taken several steps to strengthen the eCommerce programme in response to the needs of export businesses. A total of 16 awareness programmes and outreach activities were held through webinars involving briefing sessions which included the eTRADE Consultation Day. Overall, these programmes were attended by 3,828 participants and involved 234 companies. A total of 774 companies were approved under the eTRADE Programme in 2020, successfully achieving set goals and exceeding KPI targets. Companies approved eTRADE PROGRAMME cumulatively from 2017 to 2020 reached 3,358, compared to the target of 2,900.
