44 MATRADE Annual Report 2020 Caribbean Trade with the Caribbean recorded a decrease of 18.7% to RM727.4 million compared to RM894.4 million in 2019. Major trading partners in the region were Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico as well as the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Collectively, these countries accounted for 66.8% of total trade to the region. Exports to the region declined by 5% to RM590.7 million due to lower exports of petroleum products, palm oil and palm oil-based agriculture products as well as chemicals and chemical products. In 2020, wood products were the major export products with a share of 19.7% to the region, followed by processed food (17.2%) and rubber products (12.7%). Imports from the Caribbean dropped by 49.8% to RM136.7 million. Main imports were chemicals and chemical products, E&E products and manufactures of metal. The Dominican Republic was the largest export market in the Caribbean, accounting for 26.9% of total exports to the region, followed by Puerto Rico (24.3%) as well as the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (14.5%). Exports to the Dominican Republic increased by 1.9% to RM158.9 million due to higher exports of machinery, equipment and parts, rubber products as well as non-metallic mineral products. Major exports to the Dominican Republic were machinery, equipment and parts (22% share), E&E products (19.2%) and rubber products (16.8%). Imports from the Dominican Republic grew by 87.4% to RM37.4 million. Main imports were E&E products, iron and steel products and textiles, apparels and footwear.
