Annual Report 2020

MATRADE Annual Report 2020 132 In 2020, “sustainability” continued to be a dominant agenda around the world, especially among exporters as countries began to place emphasis on its impact on the global supply chain. MATRADE is the pioneering government agency to implement awareness programmes to encourage Malaysian exporters to inculcate sustainability values in business. Sustainability Action Values for Exporters (S.A.V.E) has been developed to be practiced by both internal and external stakeholders. S.A.V.E is an embodiment of MATRADE’s leadership to push for the adoption of sustainability in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda by the United Nations which opens up opportunities for companies that implement S.A.V.E (SUSTAINABILITY ACTION VALUES FOR EXPORTERS) sustainability practices in their businesses. The application of these sustainability values and practices is necessary among Malaysian exporters so that their products and services are in line with SDG objectives to remain relevant in the global supply chain. The S.A.V.E programme is also in line with the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 which will be implemented in stages. It focuses on capacity building initiatives to address the lack of in awareness of business sustainability among exporters. MATRADE sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CIMB Group Sdn Bhd on 4 February 2020 to implement a collaborative training programme related to S.A.V.E. Webinar sessions were organised to assist companies in appreciating the concept of sustainability in the global marketplace, outline and implement sustainability plans as well as upskill SMEs in economic, social and environment aspects. Through this collaboration, a total of 6 training sessions via webinars were organised. MATRADE also published Mapping Malaysia’s Resource Centres (MMRC), a directory in collaboration with Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) under the Reverse Linkage programme to promote Malaysian organisations. It is a South-South Cooperation mechanism that addresses specific development solutions in IsDB member countries. It facilitates a mutually beneficial arrangement between countries, involving the transfer and provision of expertise, knowledge and technology by provider countries to those in need of the services. Malaysia’s participation in this programme and the publication of the MMRC directory are part of a concerted effort to induce sustainability and elevate prosperity in the context of South-South Cooperation. MATRADE GOES GREEN continues to be an internal campaign focusing on encouraging employees to understand how sustainability can be practised in the workplace and establish MATRADE as a sustainably-ready organisation through the concept of recycle, reuse and reduce as well as energy saving.
