50 MATRADE Annual Report 2020 IMPORT PERFORMANCE In 2020, Malaysia’s total imports slipped by 5.8% to RM800.48 billion. The three main categories of imports by end use which accounted for 74.2% of total imports were: • Intermediate goods valued at RM429.19 billion or 53.6% of total imports, decreased by 8.1% from 2019, following lower imports of iron & steel products; • Capital goods (RM90.73 billion or 11.3% of total imports), declined by 9.4%, due mainly to lower imports of transport equipment for industrial equitment, particularly aircrafts; and • Consumption goods (RM74.13 billion or 9.3% of total imports), contracted marginally by 0.03%, due to lower imports of semidurables especially apparels and footwear.
