37 Spurring Exports In The New Norm Trade Performance Report 01 02 03 04 05 Imports RM58.9 billion 17.7% Total Trade RM143.26 billion 10.1% Exports RM84.35 billion 3.9% Main Exports E&E Products Palm Oil (Agriculture) European Union (EU) In 2020, the EU remained as one of Malaysia's major trading partner, contributing 8% or RM143.26 billion to Malaysia's total trade, down by 10.1% compared to RM159.35 billion in the previous year. Exports to this region contracted by 3.9% to RM84.35 billion mainly due to lower exports of E&E products, followed by palm oil-based manufactured products as well as optical and scientific equipment. Major exports to this region were E&E products (45.4% share), rubber products (11.3%) as well as palm oil & palm oil-based agriculture products (8.4%). Imports from the EU decreased by 17.7% to RM58.9 billion. Main imports were E&E products, chemicals and chemical products as well as machinery, equipment and parts. Germany was the largest trading partner in the EU, accounting for 33.5% of Malaysia's total trade in the region, followed by the Netherlands (19.4%) and Italy (8.5%). Germany was the largest export destination for the EU market with a share of 29.3% or RM24.69 billion, a decline of 5.2% due to lower exports of E&E products, optical and scientific equipment as well as palm oil & palm oil-based agriculture products. Major export products to Germany were E&E products, valued at RM15.1 billion, contributing 61.1% to Malaysia’s exports to Germany, followed by optical and scientific equipment (10.6% share) and rubber products (9.9%). Imports from Germany decreased by 13.2% to RM23.23 billion. Main imports were E&E products, machinery, equipment and parts as well as chemicals and chemical products.
