India, Bangladesh and Pakistan were Malaysia's major trading partners in South Asia, accounting for 94.6% of total trade to the region. Exports to South Asia which constituted 4.5% of Malaysia's total exports, slipped by 24.1% to RM43.98 billion in 2020 on account of lower exports of petroleum products, crude petroleum and manufactures of metal. Major export products to the region were palm oil and palm oil-based agriculture products, valued at RM11.58 billion or 26.3% of Malaysia's total exports to South Asia, E&E products (11.9%) and petroleum products (10.3%). Meanwhile, imports from South Asia grew by 1.9% to RM27.12 billion. Main imports were manufactures of metal, petroleum products as well as chemicals and chemical products. India remained a major trading partner and accounted for 77.8% share of Malaysia's total trade with the region. India was also the largest export market in South Asia with a share of 69.1%. However, exports to India declined by 21.2% to RM30.4 billion in 2020, due to lower exports of crude petroleum, manufactures of metal as well as palm oil and palm oil-based agriculture products. Major export products to India were palm oil and palm oilbased agriculture products, valued at RM7.33 billion, contributing 24.1% to Malaysia's exports to India, followed by E&E products (15.1% share) and crude petroleum (12.6%). Imports from India rose by 2.7% to RM24.93 billion. Main imports were manufactures of metal, petroleum products as well as chemicals and chemical products.
