MATRADE Annual Report 2020 72 Lifestyle & Life Sciences Sectors (Medical Equipment & Pharmaceuticals) Construction and Business Services Sectors Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, products in high demand were medical gloves, face masks, pharmaceutical products and personal protective equipment (PPE) from countries in ASEAN, Americas, West Asia, East Asia, and Europe. Demand for furniture and cosmetic products such as facial and personal care sets also increased, especially from countries in ASEAN, Americas and East Asia. The ability of local companies to offer Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) services in developing high quality products according to buyers’ specifications is among the key factors that contributed to this increase. Products for the construction and business services sectors were in high demand due to conformity towards quality and required standards set by importing countries. This also includes compliance to environmental sustainability. Malaysian companies have also indicated commitment to after sales services and continued improvement in quality of their products and services. A total of 30 virtual business matching sessions were successfully organised between 23 importers from 13 countries with the participation of 30 Malaysian companies. Most importers were from ASEAN, Americas, East Asia, Europe and Oceania. Among the products and services that gained high demand were windows, doors, tiles, ductile iron, playground equipment, plywood & wood blocks as well as toilet cleaning products. A total of 235 virtual business matching sessions were coordinated between Malaysian companies and foreign importers. Services such as franchise and construction services also received encouraging response from foreign countries.
