MATRADE Annual Report 2020 70 Electrical & Electronics (E&E), ICT, Machinery & Equipment Sectors Transport and Logistics Sectors The COVID-19 pandemic opened up opportunities for Malaysian companies in the E&E, ICT, machinery and equipment sectors. For the E&E sector, there was high demand from European countries for electrical hardware products. The pandemic and geo-political tensions resulted in more companies in Europe as well as Asia to diversify their supply chains to avoid dependence on a single source. By identifying Malaysia as an alternative source for importers, MATRADE was able to provide assistance to importers in matching suitable Malaysian companies for the supply of products and services in accordance with required specifications. As a country that offers quality and competitive products, Malaysia has been capable of attracting foreign importers. Throughout 2020, a total of 30 virtual business matching sessions were organised for the Transport & Logistics sectors between Malaysian companies and importers from ASEAN, Central Asia, West Asia and Oceania. The sessions involved 11 importers from Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Australia, Myanmar and Cambodia and 20 Malaysian companies. These virtual business matching sessions were for automotive spare parts products and services, maritime and logistics services. In addition, sessions also included defense and security products. The pandemic also led to increased demand for products and services in the ICT sector, especially for creative content around the world, including East Asia, which is a hub for the creative content industry within Asia. For business matching sessions throughout 2020, animation series and animation production-related services were in high demand from East Asia.
