Spurring Exports In The New Norm MATRADE Core Purpose 103 01 02 03 04 05 The Services Export Fund (SEF) is financial assistance in the form of reimbursement of expenses incurred as well as soft loans to help ease the burden of Malaysian Service Providers (MSPs) to expand exports and carry out activities and exploration into foreign markets. The ceiling for each company applying for grants and soft loans is RM5 million. The SEF facility aims to enhance competitiveness, accessibility and expand export opportunities for MSPs in global markets, as well as to brand and enhance Malaysia's profile internationally as a competent Service Provider. Throughout 2020, a total of 61 outreach programmes were undertaken to promote SEF. A total of 83 companies with 141 projects and activities were approved amounting to RM10.7 million, an increase of 415% from the programme's KPI target, which is 20 companies per year. Meanwhile, potential export sales generated from SEF grants approved in 2020 was RM1.9 billion. SERVICES EXPORT FUND Among significant projects approved under SEF are feasibility studies for various projects, namely: • Master Plan for Developing Islamic Financial Markets for Astana International Financial Centre and the Republic of Kazakhstan; • Pilot Project on the Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology for Dengue Outbreak Surveillance & Future Outbreak Prediction in Vientiane, Laos; • Xp Chip Project for the use of various Applications in China; and • Telecommunication System Project in the Field of Digitalisation in the Republic of Uzbekistan. Among new markets penetrated by MSPs are the Republic of Benin, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Norway, Germany, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Fiji, Laos and Timor-Leste. New sectors explored and promoted by MSPs were: • Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology; • Advisory Services for Islamic and Shariah Finance; • Creative Content and Talent Consulting; • eCommerce Service / Solution Providers; • Telecommunications; • Marine-related Consultation; • Railway-related Engineering; • Environmental Protection Services; and • Healthcare Services. MATRADE will continue to encourage MSPs to explore international markets for future plans by utilising grants or incentives provided by the government.
